A hard-bitten plainclothes policeman will stop at nothing to find the murderer of a fellow policeman in Scene of the Crime. Lieutenant Mike Conovan (Van Johnson) disobeys his by-the-book superiors and risks destroying his marriage in his one-man quest to bring a killer to justice.
